Fada Angelo Chidi Unaegbu: African History Must Not Be Mutilated by Religious Beliefs

Fada Angelo Chidi Unaegbu, in a thought-provoking message, emphasised the importance of preserving African history in the face of religious beliefs. He urged Africans to recognise that their ancestral history predates religious texts such as the Old Testament and the Quran. He likened the belief in the superiority of these texts over African history to the false narrative that Mungo Park discovered the River Niger.

Unaegbu cautioned against the erosion of historical identity under the guise of faith, arguing that dismissing one’s roots is not a sign of religious devotion but rather a reflection of a lack of self-esteem and knowledge. He maintained that it is possible to maintain faith while still honouring and preserving African history, urging believers to remain connected to their cultural heritage.
