Federal Government Denies National Grid Collapse – Green White Green

The federal government has denied reports claiming that the National Grid collapsed again on Friday, 8th November 2024. In a brief statement posted on their X account, the grid’s managers clarified that the rumors of another collapse were false.

The clarification followed complaints from various regions in the country about power outages, which many initially linked to a grid collapse. However, the managers of the National Grid quickly reassured the public, stating, “Kindly disregard another grid collapse information being spread. It’s false information!”

This denial came after speculation that if the National Grid had collapsed on Friday, it would have been the third such event within a single week.

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) explained the cause of the previous grid collapse on Thursday, which was attributed to a sudden rise in frequency.

Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, stated that the frequency spike resulted from technical issues at one of TCN’s substations. She confirmed that repair work had already begun to restore normal operations. However, TCN cautioned that power instability might continue until all necessary repairs are completed.

TCN reassured Nigerians that it is committed to improving the reliability of electricity supply across the country.
