Federal Govt deploys two additional advanced ATAK-129 Helicopters to fight banditry
The Nigerian government has escalated its military response to the growing security challenges in the Northwest region by deploying two advanced ATAK-129 Helicopters to support Operation “Fansan Yamma” in Sector 2.
Stationed at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base in Katsina State, these helicopters are a strategic addition aimed at intensifying the fight against banditry and other criminal activities undermining regional stability.
During the commissioning event in Katsina, the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, along with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, spoke to the press about the new deployment.
Both leaders emphasized that these state-of-the-art helicopters will significantly enhance the military’s operational capabilities in combating armed groups.
“The ATAK-129 helicopters bring unmatched advantages in precision and operational reach, ensuring that no criminal can escape justice,” the Minister stated.
“These aircraft are specifically tasked with neutralizing bandits and other elements that threaten the peace and stability of the Northwest.”
Minister Abubakar commended the bravery and unwavering dedication of the troops engaged in the operation, noting that their sacrifices are already yielding positive outcomes.
“Thanks to their efforts, we are witnessing a resurgence in daily life—farmers are returning to their fields, children are back in school, businesses are recovering, and citizens can finally rest without fear,” he said.
He acknowledged the personal sacrifices made by the military, recognizing that soldiers often leave behind the comfort of their families to secure the nation’s future.
“We remain deeply grateful for your commitment and promise to continue providing you with the resources and support you need, ensuring that you and your families are well cared for,” he assured.
With the addition of the ATAK-129 helicopters and the high-caliber personnel operating them, Minister Abubakar expressed confidence in the military’s ability to deliver decisive results.
“Together, we will dominate the battlefield and achieve a lasting victory,” he asserted.
The Minister also emphasized the advanced capabilities of the newly deployed helicopters, highlighting their speed, range, and accuracy.
“These air assets will ensure that justice reaches those who seek to destroy our peace and security,” he declared, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eradicating threats to national stability.
To maximize the effectiveness of the operation, he urged the military to foster greater cooperation with ground forces and other key stakeholders.
“Synergy is essential if we are to defeat those who threaten our country.
We must unite to build a safer, stronger Nigeria,” he said.
Minister Abubakar also expressed satisfaction with recent military successes, including the destruction of several bandit hideouts over the past week.
“If we maintain this momentum, the end of banditry is within sight,” he proclaimed.
Concluding his address, he reassured the troops of the Federal Government’s ongoing support.
“The end is near. To finish this fight, we need full cooperation, actionable intelligence, and the prayers of all Nigerians,” he stated.
