FFP Transfer Saviour: Armando Broja handed Chelsea smart £20m FFP boost after seven-figure windfall
Armando Broja could hand Chelsea a major boost as the club attempt to balance their financial books. The Blues have spent big since Clearlake Capital took control of the club and now face another summer where they must work quickly to sell players in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules.
The likes of Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Marc Cucurella and Trevoh Chalobah have all been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge and Broja looks set to join that list. Following the arrival of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, minutes for Broja appeared limited and even with injuries plaguing the squad, that was certainly the case.
As a result, the Cobham academy graduate was looking for a new club in January with the decision made he would join Fulham on loan until the end of the season. In the short-term deal, a number of assurances were included to ensure the move worked out for both parties with one of those to do with a minimum number of appearances.
Over two months on from moving to Craven Cottage, Broja is yet to start for his loan club and because of that Fulham will have to pay the full £4million loan fee. The emergence of Rodrigo Muniz has significantly affected Broja’s minutes with a five-minute cameo against Newcastle this past weekend, his first appearance in three.
Despite his lack of match action in 2024, Crystal Palace are interested in signing the Albania international, as per journalist Simon Phillips. The Eagles are willing to part ways with £20million to sign the 22-year-old, however that may not suffice for Chelsea as they look to receive up to £50million.
However, any fee being acquired for Broja could be a significant PSR boost for Chelsea as he spent over a decade in the club’s academy. Therefore, any money for his sale could arrive as pure profit on Chelsea’s books which can help their fragile financial situation.
Signing a striker is one of many transfer priorities for the Blues this summer with forgotten star Romelu Lukaku expected to be sold which would end his second spell at Stamford Bridge after three years. In terms of incomings, Victor Osimhen remains an option with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres another target following his scintillating first season in Portugal.
