Govt Denies Powerful Official Arrested By FBI Over Romance Scam – Green White Green
The Anambra State Government has responded to the arrest of Franklin Nwadialo, the chairman of Ogbaru Local Government, who was taken into custody over an alleged internet scam, commonly called “Yahoo.”
The government stated it could not comment on the romance scam accusations against Nwadialo, who was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Reports indicate that Nwadialo was detained in Texas, USA, for allegedly operating a $3.3 million romance scam. If convicted, he could face a 20-year prison sentence.
In an interview, Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, explained that Nwadialo is not a direct appointee of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. He clarified that Nwadialo was elected by the people of Ogbaru and backed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Mefor emphasized the autonomy of local governments, noting that he only represents the state government.
“He was chosen by his people and his political party. He is not an appointee of Governor Soludo, so I cannot comment on his behavior,” Mefor stated. He added, “Those who elected him should respond to these questions about the charges, as I only represent the state government, not local government. Autonomy is now in place.”
