Gunmen engage Soldiers in gun battle as Military Men invade hoodlums’ hideout
A violent gun battle has erupted between soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, Ohafia, and unidentified armed gunmen in Mbata, Umuchima village, located in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State.
Reports, though unverified, suggest that a large military convoy, consisting of over 15 Hilux vehicles and armored personnel carriers, arrived in Umuchima village around 6 a.m.
The operation appeared focused on suspected gunmen believed to be hiding near a river that forms the border between Abia and the Mbaise region of Imo State.
As of the latest updates, soldiers have reportedly established control over key junctions leading to and from the village, while troops continue to engage the gunmen in surrounding bush areas.
The sound of gunfire has been persistent throughout the day.
Neither the Nigerian Army nor the Abia State government has issued any official statement regarding the ongoing clash.
This military action comes on the heels of Governor Alex Otti’s recent commitment to bolstering security in the region, following discussions with senior security officials.
