Gunmen Kill Catholic Priest in Anambra State
A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Tobias Okonkwo, was tragically shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Thursday evening in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Reverend Father Raphael Ezeogu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. He disclosed that Father Okonkwo was attacked along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Father Okonkwo, who hailed from Ekwulumili in Nnewi South Local Government Area, was a pharmacist and had previously managed various nursing schools, including those affiliated with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala.
The chancellor expressed sorrow over the incident and prayed for the repose of the priest’s soul, adding that details about funeral arrangements would be announced later.
