I only receive half of my salary since I came to office — Governor opens up
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani has revealed that he only receives half of his salary in a bid to cut cost of governance.
He added that he has also not bought any car for any of his official in the state.
He said this while addressing reporters from the State House in Abuja on Friday following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa.
“We made it clear that we need to reduce the cost of governance in Kaduna state. To date, we have not bought a single vehicle for any government official in Kaduna state.
“That has really helped us. We’ve reduced the allowances of all our commissioners, advisers, and even myself—I receive half of my salary. Since I became governor of Kaduna state, I have not acquired a single new vehicle as governor.
“So we’ve significantly reduced the cost of governance, and that’s the way forward if we truly want to address our challenges and improve key areas like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.”
During a press briefing, the governor announced that the state government has acquired 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to improve public transportation.
“We’ve purchased around 100 CNG buses in Kaduna, and we invite Mr. President to visit and commission them. This initiative aligns with the President’s renewed hope agenda,” the governor stated.
Governor Sani also highlighted a significant decrease in the number of out-of-school children in the state, reporting a reduction of 300,000 over the past six months. He referenced data from the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics, which shows that 768,739 children are still out of school at the basic education level.
“I informed President Tinubu that through our efforts—such as constructing 62 secondary schools, adding 2,340 classrooms in primary schools, and hiring new teachers—we’ve made strides in education,” he said.
Additionally, Sani mentioned the reconstruction and equipping of 12 secondary healthcare centers, alongside 62 road projects that are currently underway, totaling approximately 700 kilometers.
He emphasized that recent security initiatives have been effective, noting that areas like Birnin Gwari, which have faced challenges with insurgency and banditry, are experiencing a newfound peace.
“In recent months, Kaduna has not encountered significant security threats.
“This stability is the result of close collaboration between state security forces and local communities, which has greatly aided intelligence gathering and peacekeeping,” he explained.
