I went round Dangote refinery, found out that by July, Nigeria’ll be self-sufficient – Godswil Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reassured Nigerians that the nation will achieve self-sufficiency in the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) within the next four weeks. Speaking during the South-South APC conference in Calabar, Cross River State, as reported by the Daily Post, Akpabio praised President Bola Tinubu for his bold decision to remove the fuel subsidy, emphasizing that the current hardships faced by Nigerians will soon be alleviated.

Akpabio shared his insights following extensive inspections of several refineries, leading him to a confident forecast. “I went round the Dangote refinery and found out that by this July 2024, Nigeria is about to become self-sufficient in the production of PMS.”

He further said: “Currently, the refinery produces sufficient diesel and is already exporting to other countries. The same goes for fertilizer and urea production. We are nearing a time when Nigeria will produce what it consumes and consume what it produces,” he explained.

Additionally, Akpabio assured the public that ongoing discussions regarding a new minimum wage are nearing completion. He stated, “Negotiations on the minimum wage will soon be finalized, and Nigerians will be pleased with the outcome.”

Reflecting on the state of the economy upon assuming office, Akpabio described it as challenging. “The economy we inherited was in dire straits, a ‘foamy economy’ as I call it. Despite these challenges, President Tinubu remains steadfast. He often reminds me, ‘I cannot complain; I campaigned and danced for this job, so I must do it and do it well,’” Akpabio remarked.
