Iran launches drone attack on Israel, Israeli airspace closed (Update)

Iran has launched an extensive drone attack on Israel, with drones expected to arrive over the course of several hours. The attack comes nearly two weeks after an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

According to reports, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have deployed drones targeting various locations in Israel.

The Gaza Media Office reports that six major Israeli army attacks have occurred in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza over the past 24 hours, resulting in 19 deaths and over 200 injuries.

In response to the escalating situation, Iraq has closed its airspace, including the Kurdish region, while Israel has announced the closure of its airspace to arrivals and departures starting at 22:30 GMT.

The White House has condemned Iran’s actions, stating that Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel.

Airline safety and security expert Dr. Todd Curtis has highlighted concerns about the safety of airspace around Israel due to the drone threat and reported GPS system jamming. Most airlines are expected to avoid certain pockets of airspace in the region as a precautionary measure.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has assured that Israel is prepared for a direct attack from Iran, with defence systems deployed and readiness for any scenario. He emphasized that Israel has the support of the United States and other countries.
