Journalist Daniel Ojukwu, who was detained by the Nigerian police for 10 days, has finally been released.
Ojukwu, known for his investigative work with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was arrested on May 1, 2024, sparking widespread concern and condemnation from civil society groups and human rights activists.
The release of Ojukwu comes after intense pressure from various quarters, including protests and advocacy campaigns led by organizations such as the Action Group for the Protection of Civic Actors and prominent activist Omoyele Sowore.
Ojukwu’s ordeal began when he was abducted by the police in Lagos and transferred to Abuja without due process.
While details surrounding Ojukwu’s detention remain unclear, it is believed to be linked to his investigative report exposing alleged corruption involving a government official.
