Drama as Akeredolu’s family debunks endorsing Ondo SDP Guber candidate

The Akeredolu family has disassociated itself from the endorsement of Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, by Olufemi Akeredolu, the younger brother of the late Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

In a statement issued on Friday, the family emphasized that Olufemi’s support for Akingboye is a personal decision that does not reflect the collective stance or views of the Akeredolu family.

Olufemi had publicly declared his backing for the SDP candidate during an event in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday. However, in a clear statement from the family head, Professor Oluwole Akeredolu, the family asserted that this endorsement should be viewed solely as Olufemi’s individual opinion.

“For the sake of clarity, Professor Oluwole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is the head of the Akeredolu family and the only authorized spokesperson for the family,” the statement declared.

“Neither Professor Oluwole Akeredolu nor any other prominent member of the family has declared support for the SDP. The Akeredolu family has not endorsed any candidate or political party at this time.”

While the family acknowledged Olufemi’s affiliation with the SDP, they stressed that his actions are his own and do not speak for the family as a whole.

“We recognize Olufemi Akeredolu’s involvement with the SDP. As an adult, he is entitled to his personal choices and associations, but he does not represent the family in this matter, nor is he authorized to speak on our behalf,” the statement added.

For his part, Olufemi Akeredolu had earlier explained that his support for Akingboye stems from the candidate’s vision to unlock the economic potential of Ondo State, particularly through the development of the Ondo Seaport, which he believes could become a major driver of the state’s economy.
