JUST IN; PDP protests as INEC announces APC’s Okpebholo winner of Edo Guber Election
On Sunday, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a protest in Benin City against the collation of results from the Edo governorship election, gathering near the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As of Sunday evening, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was leading with victories in 11 out of the 16 local government areas declared, while the PDP had won six, with one result still pending.
Earlier in the day, PDP members gathered outside the collation center, alleging that INEC was manipulating the election results. Police dispersed the protesters around 2:45 a.m. using tear gas.
Tony Iyoha, a PDP agent at the center, accused officials of electoral fraud, claiming some results were “manufactured.”
Iyoha said: “It’s what we’ve been reduced to as Nigerians, where people go out to vote, and after exercising their franchise, you come out and manufacture results.”
