Kogi State Assembly Clarifies Misleading Reports on FAAC and IGR Probe

A recent news headline alleging that the Kogi State House of Assembly was initiating a probe into the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations and the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has been refuted by the Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker.

Contrary to the reported claims, during the plenary session held on March 28th, 2024, the Speaker, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, announced the constitution of a committee tasked with completing an assignment initiated by previous Assembly members. The committee’s mandate revolves around ascertaining the accurate figures regarding the total revenue accrued to the state.

The press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker emphasized that at no point did the Speaker or any Assembly member express ignorance regarding the state’s revenue sources or question the discrepancies in the figures. The statement also clarified that the reported quotes were never uttered during the plenary session.

The live video recording of the session, accessible on the Chief Press Secretary’s Facebook page, serves as evidence of what was actually discussed on the floor of the House. The Speaker underscored the importance of obtaining precise data on revenue to facilitate effective planning for infrastructural and human capital development in Kogi State.

While reiterating the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the Chief Press Secretary appealed to journalists to verify information with the Speaker’s office to ensure accurate representation of the Assembly’s stance on issues.

The clarification aims to rectify any misconceptions stemming from misleading reports and reaffirm the Assembly’s dedication to fostering a constructive relationship with the media for the benefit of the public.
