During a plenary sitting on Thursday, the Kogi State House of Assembly announced the formation of a new seven-member committee tasked with evaluating the total revenues accruing to the state government. Speaker Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf disclosed this decision, highlighting the importance of obtaining accurate data on state revenue to facilitate effective infrastructural and human development initiatives.
The Speaker emphasized the necessity of the committee’s mandate, given the previous committee’s inability to fulfill its responsibilities. Rt Hon Yusuf underscored the significance of acquiring precise information on state revenue, noting its crucial role in driving progress and growth across various sectors.
The newly appointed committee, chaired by Hon Olawumi Jacob of Mopamuro State Constituency, will be supported by co-chairman Hon Akus Lawal of Ankpa 1 State Constituency. Other members include Hon Idrees Maikudi of Kogi State Constituency, Hon Jibrin Abu of Ajaokuta State Constituency, Hon Abdulrasaq Suleiman of Okene Town State Constituency, and Hon Emmanuel Obaro of Yagba East State Constituency. Alh Muhammed Bello Abdul will serve as the Committee Clerk.
The committee has been directed to adhere to the terms of reference provided and submit its report within the next eight weeks. This initiative underscores the State Assembly’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing state resources for the benefit of all citizens.
