The Kogi State Government has dismissed allegations made by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) regarding attacks on its witnesses during the ongoing election petition tribunal proceedings.
SDP National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, had raised concerns over purported attacks on party members serving as witnesses before the Kogi State gubernatorial election tribunal. Gabam also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and national security heads to intervene in the matter.
However, Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information, addressed these allegations during a press conference in Lokoja. Fanwo stated that there was no evidence to support the SDP’s claims of witness attacks at the tribunal.
Fanwo emphasized the government’s commitment to governance and refuted what he termed as “baseless allegations” by the SDP. He asserted that the state government, led by Ahmed Ododo, remains focused on serving the people of Kogi State, rather than engaging in political propaganda.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s dedication to security and constitutionalism, highlighting its responsibility to protect all citizens regardless of political affiliations. He stressed that the tribunal case does not involve the state government and condemned any attempt to blame the government for the SDP’s alleged setbacks in the tribunal.
Fanwo reiterated the government’s stance against violence and disruptions to peace within the state, emphasizing the importance of upholding law and order.
