Labour Declares Indefinite Strike Over Minimum Wage.

According to a report. On Friday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), which represent organized labor, said that a statewide indefinite strike will begin on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.

The move is a direct reaction to the impasse in talks with the government about the minimum wage proposal and the recent, contentious hike in electricity rates.

According to information obtained by Newsmen, the tripartite committee of 37 members made seven attempts to achieve a consensus on a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers before the negotiations eventually broke down on Friday.

At the Friday bargaining meeting, organized labor expressed anger about the government’s lack of commitment and representation.

Even yet, the Federal Government changed its recommendation from the prior N57,000 to N60,000 during a meeting earlier this week.

Even though organized labor dropped their demand from N497,000 to N494,000 from their stance last week, they still rejected the deal.
