LALIGA: Table And Match Review After Friday’s Game

In a thrilling encounter at the Mendizorroza Stadium, Deportivo Alavés and Girona battled to a 2-2 draw, with Jon Guridi emerging as the hero for the home side with a dramatic late equalizer in the 100th minute, as reported by Flashscore.

Girona started brightly, with Eric García heading home Viktor Tsyhankov’s corner to give them an early lead after just four minutes. However, Alavés responded quickly, with Guridi firing home Giuliano Simeone’s pass to level the scores.

Carlos Vicente had a golden opportunity to put Alavés ahead, but his effort was saved by Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. Despite Alavés’ dominance, Girona regained the lead just before halftime, courtesy of a goal from Yangel Herrera, assisted by Artem Dovbyk’s backheel.

Girona looked set to secure the win, with Iván Martín and Dovbyk both going close to extending their lead early in the second half. However, Alavés fought back, with Jesús Owono making a crucial save to deny Martín before Guridi’s late heroics salvaged a point for the home side.

The draw leaves Girona with just two wins in their last nine away meetings with Alavés across all competitions. Meanwhile, Alavés remains in contention for their first top-half finish in seven years, although they face a tough test against champions Real Madrid in their next fixture.
