Leverkusen continues unbeaten streak, qualifies for Europa League semis

Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga champions, advanced to the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday, extending their remarkable undefeated streak to 44 matches across all competitions this season.

In the second leg of the quarter-final against West Ham, the German side secured a 1-1 draw, clinching a 3-1 aggregate victory. Michail Antonio opened the scoring for West Ham in the 13th minute, only to be equalized by Jeremie Frimpong in the 89th minute for Xabi Alonso’s team.

Next up, Leverkusen is set to face Roma in a thrilling clash for a spot in the final.

Elsewhere, Liverpool suffered elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Atalanta, as the Italian side secured a 3-1 aggregate win on Thursday. Despite Mohamed Salah’s early penalty securing a 1-0 victory for Liverpool in the second leg, Atalanta’s commanding three-goal lead from the first leg at Anfield proved decisive.

Atalanta’s journey to the semi-finals marked their first appearance in the last four of a European competition since 1988. Their fans celebrated passionately at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, with fireworks lighting the sky and the crowd erupting in jubilation at the historic victory.

This season has brought challenges for Liverpool, with only three wins in their last nine games across all competitions.
