Kayode Cole was apprehended by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, March 18, 2024, from the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. His arrest came after he issued a death threat against Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, through a comment on Instablog9ja’s Instagram page.
Cole, using the Instagram handle “1billionsecretss,” made the threatening remark in response to a story posted by Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024. The story detailed the EFCC’s investigation into money laundering activities within certain religious sects in Nigeria. Reacting to the post, Cole ominously predicted Olukoyede’s demise within six months.
During interrogation, Cole claimed that his comment was merely an attempt to gain attention, admitting to “chasing clout.” However, the seriousness of his threat prompted authorities to take swift action.
Cole is set to be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and potential prosecution.
In related news, Olukoyede had previously revealed the EFCC’s discoveries regarding money laundering within religious organizations during a one-day dialogue on “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption” held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, on Wednesday, January 30, 2024. He disclosed how one religious sect was laundering money for terrorists, while another was found to be harboring a money launderer.
The EFCC continues its efforts to combat corruption and financial crimes, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation and vigilance in safeguarding societal integrity and security.
