Man Sentenced to Prison terms for stealing three tubers of yams
An aluminum worker from Okinni in Osun State, Sunday Ejoh, has received a six-month prison sentence for stealing three tubers of yam worth N3,000.
The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo, led by Magistrate M. Olatunji, delivered the sentence.
Ejoh was convicted of theft under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Law of Osun State, 2002.
According to prosecutor Jacob Akintunde, Ejoh committed the theft on September 22, 2024, taking the yams from Oluwole Durojaye.
Authorities also recovered a cutlass and a pair of slippers from him.
Representing himself, Ejoh confessed to the crime, explaining that hunger drove him to steal.
“I was hungry, and I have a family,” he stated in court.
After weighing the circumstances, Magistrate Olatunji found him guilty and imposed a six-month sentence, with an option to pay a fine of N25,000.
The magistrate further instructed that the stolen yams be returned to their rightful owner.
