Manchester United agree Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui deals with Bayern Munich, fee, details

Manchester United have had a breakthrough in the chase for their top transfer targets Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with it being reported that two deals have been agreed with Bayern Munich

It’s had been a slow start to the summer for Manchester United, with fans growing frustrated at the lack of signings in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first transfer window at the helm.

Joshua Zirkzee, who could make his debut in Saturday’s Community Shield and Leny Yoro, who has been injured for three months, have been the only new additions so far.

However, that looks set to change very soon with the news that United have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the signings of defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

How much De Ligt and Mazraoui will cost United

David Ornstein has broken the news that United have finally agreed deals with Bayern Munich for their top two transfer targets.

Ornstein reports in The Athletic that United have agreed a deal worth €45million (£38.6m), plus €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons, for the signing of Dutch centre-back De Ligt.

Though he still needs to complete a medical, the 24-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract with the club holding the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Additionally, United have also agreed a separate deal with Bayern to sign right-back Mazraoui for €15m (£12.8m), plus €5m (£4.2m) in bonuses.

However, it’s added the deal remains contingent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving the club. A £15m fee has been agreed with West Ham but the defender has not yet agreed to make the move.

Massive boost for Erik ten Hag

The news that United are closing in on De Ligt and Mazraoui could not have come at a better time for Erik ten Hag.

The manager has been keen to strengthen his defence all summer after injuries completely decimated his back-line last season.

The plague has continued into the new campaign, too, with United only having four fit defenders for the Community Shield clash with Manchester City at Wembley.

But reuniting with two players he enjoyed so much success with at Ajax should hopefully make a big difference and a huge upgrade on the defence.
