“Musicians can’t change the world alone. No matter what we artists sing in our songs, it won’t change anything if it’s not a collective effort from doctors, lawyęrs, teachers and everyone in the society.” Seun Kuti

“When people put too much pręssure on artists today, like musicians have to change the world, it’s just funny to me. We act like it’s just the musicians duty to change the world. We act like journalist have no duty to change the world, we act like doctors have no duty to change the world, everybody has a duty to change the world. No matter what I sing in my songs, no matter what I try to inspire as a musician, it won’t change anything?

If every musician startęd singing positive songs like heal the world, and whatever, if the doctors of this world do not want to heal the people, if the engineers don’t want to engineer a better world, if the journalist don’t want to write the truth, if the polîce and lawyęrs don’t want to enforce justîce, then there’s so little music can do. Music can throw the inspiration but we also need all other social sciences and professionals to align with the people. When I see the world today, I really feel like, doctors feel like they have no say in this.

Doctors feel like all they have to do is go to the hospital and treat those who can afford it, and they’ve done their best. Lãwyers can go to coûrt and represent the people who are rich enough to pay them, while pôor people even though they’re innõcênt cannot get justîce anywhere. Rich guîlty people are walking out of coûrt rooms everyday while the pôor innõcênt people go to jaîl. Journalist can manîpulate the truth to suit the narrative of the rich people of this world while the truth remains hîdden. If we need to change the world, then it should be a collective effort of the society and not only the artist.” Seun Kuti
