Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume has urged Daniel Bwala, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consider mending ties with Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Ndume’s remarks come in light of Bwala’s previous decision to part ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that he had publicly attributed to disagreements over Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate.
Bwala had cited religious differences as the primary reason for his departure, a stance that led to tensions within the party.
Ndume’s call for reconciliation underscores the importance of unity within the APC, particularly in light of the current political landscape.
In a statement issued yesterday, Ndume praised President Tinubu for his decision to appoint Bwala, calling it a demonstration of inclusive leadership and magnanimity.
He commended the President for fostering unity through the appointment, especially considering Bwala’s previous critical stance against the APC and Tinubu during the 2023 elections.
“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Daniel Bwala as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications,” Ndume stated.
“This is a commendable act, particularly considering Bwala’s past roles and positions.”
Bwala, who had been a spokesperson for the presidential campaign of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had been outspoken in his criticism of Tinubu and the APC.
However, his appointment by President Tinubu signals a broader commitment to reconciliation and inclusivity within the administration.
Ndume, representing Bwala’s home district, encouraged the appointee to collaborate closely with Vice President Shettima to advance Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
“You must work hand in hand with the Vice President, who is your second-in-command, to promote the Renewed Hope vision of the President,” Ndume advised.
Furthermore, Ndume urged Bwala to emulate long-time Tinubu allies such as Sunday Dare, Bayo Onanuga, Hadiza Bala Usman, and Nuhu Ribadu, highlighting their ability to communicate government policies effectively and respectfully.
“These individuals advocate for Tinubu’s policies using facts and figures, without resorting to offensive or divisive language. Bwala should adopt this same approach,” Ndume recommended.
The senator also stressed the significance of grassroots engagement in ensuring the success of public communication efforts. “It all starts with the people.
You must connect with the grassroots to ensure that the administration’s message reaches and resonates with them,” Ndume added.
