Ollie Watkins has made his feelings clear on joining Liverpool as Arne Slot plots bid for Aston Villa striker

Ollie Watkins has already had his say on a potential move away from Villa Park this summer, as Liverpool plot to make a move for the attacker.

Watkins has enjoyed an astounding season for Aston Villa, registering the most combined goals and assists out of anyone in the division (32), joint with Erling Haaland.

The Villa attacker’s impressive performances have seen him become a consistent member of Gareth Southgate’s England squads ahead of the Euro 2024 this summer.

The 28-year-olds fine form has put some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs on high alert for a potential transfer this summer.

According to a report by The Sun, Watkins is admired by new] Liverpool boss Arne Slot, and Aston Villa are braced for a bid from Liverpool.

Slot will be keen to make some key signings this summer, as he looks to put his own stamp on a side that has been under the management of Jurgen Klopp for so long.

The report states that the Reds have doubts over Darwin Nunez, who has recently been linked with a move away from Anfield to Barcelona.

Nunez has been under massive pressure at Liverpool in recent weeks, after being dropped from the starting 11 ever since their Merseyside derby defeat at Goodison.

Amid these rumours, Watkins has already made comment on a potential move away from Villa when he signed a deal until 2028 last season.

“I feel like this is the best place for me to play my football. I’ve still got a lot to achieve here,” Watkins explained in October 2023.

Watkins’ great form correlated to an unbelievable season for Villa as they secured Champions League football for the first time in the UCL era.

Unai Emery’s side would have finished top in a mini-league between the top six, demonstrating how well they’d performed when up against the top sides.

Despite opening and closing the season with 5-0 defeats, Villa managed to finish two points clear of their nearest top 4 challengers.
