Oshiomhole Calls on Esan People to Reject “Outsider” PDP Candidate, as Labour Party Defects to APC

In a charged rally in Esan Central, Okpoji, Edo State, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole delivered a passionate appeal to the Esan community, urging them to reject the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Oshiomhole criticized Ighodalo as an “emergency Esan man,” questioning his commitment and connection to the region.

Oshiomhole, a prominent figure in Edo politics and leader of the APC in the state, contrasted Ighodalo with the APC’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. “Monday Okpebholo is Esan through and through,” Oshiomhole declared. “He’s walked these lands, understands your struggles, and has been a part of your lives for decades.”

Oshiomhole further criticized Ighodalo, portraying him as an outsider with no genuine ties to Esan land. “Asue Ighodalo is afraid of his people, can’t speak their language, and is even scared to sleep in Esan land,” he argued. “He only shows up when he needs your votes but disappears when you need him the most.”

Oshiomhole also questioned Ighodalo’s professional contributions to Esan land and Edo State, highlighting his roles as chairman of Nigerian Breweries and head of the economic team at Sterling Bank. “What has he done for you? What has he done for Esan land? Nothing!” Oshiomhole asserted.

The rally peaked when Labour Party leaders in Okpoji announced their defection to the APC, praising Senator Okpebholo’s dedication to Esan land. “Okpebholo’s generosity and track record speak volumes,” the Labour leader remarked, signaling their support for his leadership.

As the crowd erupted in applause, it was evident that Oshiomhole’s message resonated with the people of Esan land. With Labour Party members now backing the APC, the stage is set for a significant political contest that could reshape the future of Edo State.
