Police Command commences training of personnel on use of firearms, others

Ekiti State Police Command on Sunday said it has commenced a training and reorientation programme for the officers and men selected from the divisions and formations across the state.

The command spokesman, DSP Abutu Sunday, who disclosed this in a statement, said the training which is mandatorily scheduled for all personnel of the command in batches, would be centred on professionalism, Police Duties, Police Act and Regulation, Criminal Code, Musketry, Riot Drill and Foot Drill, Use of Firearms, Human Rights, Social Media Policy (SMP), amongst others.

He said the training is in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his vision of ensuring effective service delivery to the Nigerian populace.

The statement reads: “The aim of the training is to improve professionalism, increase knowledge and performance, capacity development, ensure discipline and create better relationship with the public.

“The training and reorientation exercise, which shall be done periodically, shall remind the personnel of the basic police knowledge and skills acquired while in their training schools/colleges as well as exposing them to the modern-day policing strategies.

“Crime prevention strategies, protection of lives and properties that include students, teachers, worshippers, private and government infrastructures, amongst others will also be discussed.

“The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akunwale Adeniran while emphasizing the need for professionalism and a better Policing system, implored the trainees to make good use of this training and reorientation period to arm themselves with the basics of policing and become better officers.”
