Policeman flee as Escort vehicle in high speed crushes two Worshippers to death
Two church goers were reportedly killed in a crash involving an escort vehicle at Elemoshi area of Bolunduro, along the Akure/Ondo road in Ondo state.
The incident occurred when a motorcycle, marked NND 218OC, collided with an unregistered Toyota Hilux.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle, traveling at high speed, attempted to overtake a car coming from Akure and collided head-on with the Hilux heading to Abuja.
Both drivers were said to be speeding, contributing to the crash.
A policeman and other occupants in the escort vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, fearing they might be lynched.
The two victims, along with another who sustained injuries, were returning from church when the accident occurred. The motorcycle rider had no chance to avoid the collision, leading to the tragic deaths of two people, including a woman.
The eyewitness said: “The driver of the ill-fated motorcycle while on top speed suddenly overtook the car to hit the vehicle and left two persons dead, with one other seriously injured.
“Having noticed that an accident had occurred, the driver of the Hilux, a policeman, and some of its occupants took to their heels leaving one whose legs have been injured, by the roadside.
“Two out of the three persons on the motorcycle suspected to be coming from church died on the spot while the other was unconscious.”
The source reported that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue, while the injured victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
