Review your policies, they are not working people are suffering – Gov slams FG

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged the Federal Government to reevaluate its fiscal and monetary policies, arguing that they are failing to effectively address poverty and unemployment.

Speaking at the World Bank Nigeria Development Update conference titled “Staying the Course: Progress Amid Pressing Challenges” in Abuja on Thursday, Mohammed emphasised that current policies are detrimental to citizen growth.

The event was attended by notable figures, including World Bank Senior Vice President Indermit Gill, Country Director for Nigeria Diame Diop, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and Central Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso.

“Please review your policies; they are not working,” Mohammed stated.

He noted that even with an increase in allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), inflation is eroding the purchasing power of citizens, putting them at risk of severe discontent.

“We are living among these people, and I can assure you that frustration is mounting,” he warned.

Regarding the minimum wage, Mohammed confirmed that Bauchi State continues to pay the previous wage of N33,000 but has established a committee to explore the implementation of the new wage.

He pointed out that while state revenues have risen, there are still significant deficits in essential services like power and infrastructure.
