The Cross Rivers State House of Assembly has impeached its Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, over allegations of misappropriation of funds and administrative high-handedness.

The lawmakers also alleged that the impeached speaker misappropriated two percent of all revenue collected by the internal revenue service (IRS) monthly to the tune of N404 million.
