Simon Ekpa’s Extradition Requirements Sent to Finland, Says Defence Chief
The Federal Government has forwarded the necessary documents to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator, to Nigeria, according to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa.
Speaking on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-In-Review program, General Musa stated, “Legal action is underway. While I cannot go into much detail, I am pleased with the steps taken so far. The Finnish Government has received the extradition requirements, and we trust the process will follow due course.”
Simon Ekpa, alongside four others, was arrested in November 2024 by Finnish authorities on allegations of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing. A Finnish district court in Lahti subsequently ordered his detention on probable charges of public incitement to commit terrorism-related crimes.
The defence chief also noted that the sit-at-home orders propagated by Ekpa and his allies, which have disrupted life in Nigeria’s South-East region, are diminishing due to ongoing military clearance operations.
Ekpa is also accused of using his social media to incite violence and propagate separatist agendas.
While awaiting further updates on the extradition process, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing insecurity and maintaining peace in the region.
