Swedish shipowner Stena Bulk has sold off its last remaining LNG carrier to an undisclosed Asian buyer.
The Erik Hånell-led company said it handed over the 145,000 cu m Stena Blue Sky in Singapore on Thursday. No price was revealed.
The sale of the 2006-built unit comes hot on the heels of the exit of the 2011-built tri-fuel diesel electric (TFDE) 174,000 cu m vessels Stena Crystal Sky and Stena Clear Sky, which were picked up by BW LNG.
“This sale aligns with our strategic vision as we explore new avenues of growth within our fleet,” said Stena Bulk president and chief executive Hånell.
Stena Bulk listed its LNG assets for sale last June. The company also owns the LNG technology business Stena Power & LNG Solutions, which aims to develop regasification/import terminals for LNG as well as import and export terminals for ammonia and gas-to-power solutions that involve onshore distribution of LNG.
The company said it is in talks with several interested parties regarding a potential straight sale of the business unit, or co-investment in its future.
