Suspect arrested for s3xual assault says he thought the Woman needed him for the night
A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Kazeem, has been accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger. He claims that the woman appeared to seek his assistance for the night when she requested a place to stay.
Kazeem was among the suspects presented by the Oyo State Police Command last Friday.
During a press briefing, Police Public Relations Officer SP Adewale Osifeso, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ayodele Sonubi, revealed that the incident occurred on October 17 at approximately 10:15 p.m.
The woman, who had just arrived in the city from Lagos, was picked up by Kazeem in the Olorunsogo area, where he was supposed to take her to her destination in the Adeshina area.
The PPRO said: “On their way, the suspect diverted to another route which the victim was not familiar with, and when she wanted to know where he was taking her to, he told her that he wanted to pick up something from his wife’s shop.
“The suspect ended up taking her to Ogbere area where his wife’s shop was located. She was forced inside where he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.”
Osifeso further revealed that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to having a sexual relationship with the woman but insisted it was consensual. He noted that a medical examination revealed bruises around the victim’s genital area, and the police recovered several items as evidence, including a female underwear, a multi-colored boxer, and a red pair of trousers.
Describing the events leading up to the incident, Kazeem explained, “That night, I was waiting on the expressway for passengers when the woman approached me. She mentioned that she had just arrived in Ibadan from Lagos and was unsure of her destination. I asked her where she needed to go, and she told me. I then invited her to join me.
“As she sat on the bike, she told me that she was hungry. I gave her money to go and buy food. Thereafter, she told me to help her get a place where she could stay overnight because it was already late and she might not be able to get recognise the place she was going easily.
“From there, I took her to my wife’s shop at Olorunsogo area and slept with her.
“When my wife came after I was arrested, she could not say anything. She was just crying.”
