On the solemn occasion of the 10th anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls, Borno’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, has reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to rescuing the 87 girls who are still in captivity.
Addressing journalists in Maiduguri on Saturday, Prof. Tar emphasized the state’s focus on commemorating the decade-long tragedy and assessing the current security situation in Borno.
Expressing deep regret over the passing of ten years since the horrific attack on Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, in 2014, Prof. Tar conveyed the state government’s heartfelt commitment to bringing back the remaining girls to their families.
His words: “The Borno State Government is committed to rescuing the remaining Chibok girls and reuniting them with their families.
“We understand the pain and anguish that the families of those still in captivity are going through. This is our sorrow!”
Prof. Tar revealed that out of the 276 abducted Chibok Girls, 187 have been successfully rescued and reunited with their families.
He further detailed the ongoing support provided to the rescued girls, including enrollment in various educational programs and psychosocial assistance for their reintegration into everyday life.
