US Vice President Kamala Harris Concedes Defeat, Calls Trump

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has officially conceded the presidential race and called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory.

Harris reached out to Trump on Wednesday, a senior aide of hers confirmed.

According to the aide, Harris discussed the importance of a smooth transition of leadership during her conversation with Trump.

“She discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans,” the aide told AP.

Later in the day, Harris is expected to make a public concession speech where she will address the nation and formally acknowledge her defeat.

Donald Trump’s return to the White House comes nearly four years after his first term ended. Trump, the Republican candidate, secured enough electoral votes to pass the 270-vote threshold required to win the presidency.
