Vice Principal, Teachers, orher detained as students, Residents engage in violent clash

At least four staff members from Areago Community High School in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have been detained following a confrontation between students and local residents.

The incident, which has sparked tension in the community, occurred when a dispute escalated between students of the school and neighborhood residents.

Among those arrested are the school’s Vice Principal of Administration, Mr. Ajayi; senior teachers Mr. Oladeji and Mr. Adekunle; and a day guard. They are currently being held at the Owode Divisional Police Station in Ogbomoso.

According to reports, the conflict began on Thursday when a group of students clashed with local women who attempted to pass through the school grounds on commercial motorcycles.

The students blocked their way in protest, citing the ongoing construction of a perimeter fence by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

The fence project was initiated to secure the school, which had become increasingly vulnerable to security breaches.

A teacher at the school, speaking anonymously, explained that the need for the fence became urgent due to the growing number of incidents and security concerns arising from the school’s lack of proper barriers.

The teacher noted that the porous nature of the school’s boundaries had led to a series of disturbances on campus.

Sources indicate that the arrested staff are expected to be released on bail.
