Youths from Kogi State, representing all three senatorial districts, have voiced their determination to resist the attempts of what they term as “desperate and embittered politicians” to tarnish the reputation of the state. Under the umbrella of the Kogi Independent Youths Association, they cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be vigilant against politicians seeking to exploit the Commission for their selfish agendas.
Following an emergency leadership meeting in Abuja, the youths emphasized their commitment to defending the integrity of Kogi State and preventing it from being turned into an enclave of ethnic conflict. Comrade Mohammed Abdulrazaq, speaking on behalf of the youths, asserted their readiness to utilize all legal means to safeguard the state’s unity and wellbeing.
The association, comprising approximately 500 registered members, predominantly graduates, and supported by thousands of nominal members across the state’s 21 local government areas, expressed confidence in the EFCC’s current leadership. They believed that the Commission would not succumb to the manipulative tactics of certain politicians.
Abdulrazaq emphasized the urgency of their message, stating that they would not wait to convene a formal press conference. He urged the EFCC to exercise caution in dealing with individuals whose motives were dubious and cautioned against allowing the Commission to become a pawn in political vendettas.
The youths also praised the developmental strides of former Governor Yahaya Bello, acknowledging his contributions to infrastructure, youth empowerment, and education in Kogi State. They condemned attempts by certain politicians to sow division along ethnic lines and affirmed their commitment to maintaining the state’s unity.
In their declaration, the youths warned embittered politicians against tarnishing the state’s image and threatened to pursue legal recourse if their demands were ignored. They affirmed their role as critical stakeholders in Kogi’s present and future, pledging to champion the cause of unity and development in the state.
