William Gallas urges Chelsea to sign this two [2] misunderstood Manchester United stars for better performance
Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect option to solve a problem position for Chelsea. That’s according to former Chelsea defender William Gallas, who has tipped his old club to swoop for the Manchester United captain and his teammate – England star Marcus Rashford – when the market reopens.
Chelsea have splashed out just under £1billion since Todd Boehly stepped into the boardroom at Stamford Bridge and the club’s outlay under him will almost certainly pass the 10-digit mark this summer. But could Fernandes be a viable target for The Blues given his importance to their Premier League rivals?
Gallas told Gambling Zone: “Marcus Rashford and [Bruno] Fernandes could be good options for Chelsea. Both are quality players. Bruno could definitely be the kind of midfielder who has the quality to play in the number ten role where Chelsea lack strength.”
The 46-year-old added: “Chelsea are a team of young players and Bruno Fernandes has the leadership qualities to get through certain periods. He’d be a good signing if the rumours are true.”
Fernandes, 29, started his career at Boavista and also played for Novara, Udinese, Sampdoria and Sporting Lisbon before touching down at Old Trafford in January 2020. Since then, the 64-cap playmaker has totted up 226 games for United with 74 goals and 62 assists to show for his efforts.
Chelsea have spent £100million plus on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the last 18 months, while Mauricio Pochettino continues to shuffle his pack in attacking quarters with Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and others being deployed centrally at various stages in a 4-2-3-1 formation behind a lone frontman.
Fernandes has two years left to run on his contract. He was appointed United captain last summer to pinpoint his status at Old Trafford and beyond.
