The Nigeria Police Force has emphasised the advantages of the Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR), a new initiative designed to transform vehicle information verification and management on the roads.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi announced this innovation via his X handle on Thursday, underscoring its efficiency and convenience within the “e-policing” framework.

Under Inspector-General Olukayode Egbetokun’s leadership, the E-CMR aims to enhance road safety and streamline policing operations.

Adejobi explained that vehicle owners can now register their vehicles online, enabling quick emergency responses.

He added that if a registered vehicle is stolen, owners can promptly report it through their online profile, triggering instant alerts to field officers nationwide, which significantly increases recovery chances.

He also noted that the E-CMR reduces the need for paperwork.

One of Adejobi’s tweet reads: “No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time.”

In another tweet, he added, “With the NPF’s new E-CMR system, you don’t need to carry around physical documents. Access all your vehicle info digitally—quick, easy, and secure.”

Recall that in July 2024, the Inspector-General of Police directed the implementation of the digital Central Motor Registry to modernise and digitise the vehicle registration process, enhancing the country’s safety and security framework.

The police anticipate that this digital system will offer increased convenience and efficiency for vehicle ownership transactions by streamlining documentation and verification processes.

In June, Adejobi noted that the E-CMR would simplify various vehicle-related services, including ownership transfers, license renewals, and updates to engine or chassis information.

He also highlighted its potential to prevent the sale of stolen vehicles and improve recovery efforts.
