Anambra State Launches AGỤNECHEMBA Security Outfit to Tackle Insecurity

In a bold step toward improving security, Governor Prof. Charles Soludo, CFR, officially launched a new security initiative called AGỤNECHEMBA in Anambra State on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the International Convention Center in Awka.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Soludo stressed that security is essential to realizing his vision for a prosperous and livable Anambra. He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the lives and property of the state’s citizens, noting that the progress his administration has made in other sectors must be supported by strong security measures.

The Governor acknowledged the complex challenges posed by criminal activities masked by propaganda and deceptive ideologies. He shared his resolve to eliminate insecurity, and praised the success of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) formed in 2023 to tackle illegal touting. He also introduced a new special intervention force, “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” (Operation Peace Shall Prevail), to further enhance security in the state.

As part of his efforts, Governor Soludo extended an amnesty offer to criminals, including kidnappers, cultists, and drug dealers, urging them to surrender their weapons and embrace rehabilitation. He also announced a reward system for anyone who provides credible information leading to the arrest of criminals, offering up to N5 million for valuable tips.

The Governor emphasized the importance of collective action and called on all stakeholders, from citizens to traditional rulers, to join in the fight against crime. He reassured whistleblowers of protection and rewards, while also introducing toll-free emergency lines (5111 and 08002200008) for citizens to report emergencies.

Governor Soludo acknowledged that the road ahead would be tough, but expressed confidence that Anambra would triumph over the challenges. “The next few months will be turbulent, but Anambra will win,” he said, thanking all those who have supported the State Security Trust Fund and urging everyone to come together in support of lasting peace.
