Ian Maatsen Breaks Silence one future after Borussia Dortmund brilliant Champions League performance

Chelsea loan star Ian Maatsen, who is currently at Borussia Dortmund, has aired his thoughts on his parent club after driving his current side into the Champions League semi finals.

The full-back joined Dortmund on a temporary deal in January and is due to return to Chelsea in the summer. He is flourishing with the German side and will take part the final four of the Champions League following their victory over Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have had Maatsen on their books for quite some time. Still, he has been persistently loaned out, enjoying stints with various clubs., including Burnley last season.

Now, the 22-year-old full-back has stepped onto Europe’s grandest platform, and if Dortmund get past PSG, he could be playing in a Champions League final at Wembley. Speaking to CBS via the Mirror, the thrilled youngster said: “It’s such an amazing feeling, you know? I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a kid, especially scoring my first goal in the Champions League. I’m so happy I can’t even describe it.”

Maatsen also hinted that he is not sure at to the reasons over not getting enough opportunities to play at Stamford Bridge, saying: “I always had the belief to play for Chelsea but unfortunately for some reasons it didn’t work out. But, now I am here, I am very grateful for this opportunity. I came here to experience at the highest level and play my game and today I think I showed a very good performance.”

Maatsen found his chances at Chelsea limited in the first half of the season, leading to a January exit. His solitary league start and sporadic substitute appearances didn’t provide much room to shine.

Mauricio Pochettino hinted that Maatsen’s adaptation to the Premier League was challenging in his debut season. The former Spurs boss remarked: “He was involved last game but young players sometimes they can impress you in pre-season but you need to give them time after to relax. Sometimes they struggle.

“He’s in our squad and a great kid. He’s got great quality and can play in different positions but it’s about giving him time. he came from Burnley last season in the Championship. To perform at Chelsea, with all respect, is not the same and the competition is different.”

Chelsea’s strategy of loaning out burgeoning talents and selling those with high market value continues. Meanwhile, Pochettino has been juggling a large squad due to numerous signings since his arrival.
