Following Burnley’s draw, Cole Palmer has now accomplished what Eden Hazard did during his rookie season at Chelsea.
In today’s 2-2 draw with Burnley, Cole Palmer, an attacker for Chelsea, was able to record another goal.
After Lorenz Assignon, who was given a second yellow card for the foul, brought down Mykhailo Mudryk in the box, Chelsea was awarded a penalty in the first half.
Following the Burnley match, Cole Palmer matched Eden Hazard.
Palmer has not only tallied 13 goals in the Premier League but also racked up eight assists in the top division in England.
Why does that matter so much? It clearly indicates that the Englishman has now participated in 20 goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this season, which is truly remarkable.
However, what makes it even more remarkable is that only four other Chelsea players—including Hazard—have been able to accomplish the same feat in their first season at Stamford Bridge, according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella.
The other three names on the list are Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Diego Costa, and Cesc Fabregas, who all joined Chelsea in the same year.
Is Cole Palmer going to leave Chelsea?
Palmer’s deal with Chelsea expires in 2030, so there shouldn’t be any pressure on them to let him go this summer.
The England international, who recently joined the team and plays frequently, is also unlikely to be interested in leaving so quickly.
His stats this season, though, have been absurd. The best teams in Europe, possibly even Palmer’s former team Manchester City, will come calling if Chelsea keeps losing and he has another season similar to this one.
If his current team stays in the bottom half of the table and is eliminated from the Champions League, it would be difficult to say no.
It makes sense, though, that Palmer is a player Chelsea does not want to lose; rumors have it the team wants to use Palmer as their poster child.
