Jose Mourinho demonstrated class by sending a heartwarming message to a Chelsea fan on his 100th birthday. He wished this supporter, Alf Wells, who turned 100 on Saturday.
Mourinho is much loved for his spells at Chelsea, where he guided the team to three Premier League titles, alongside other prestigious trophies. His name is still heard in chants from the Stamford Bridge crowds even now.
Wells, an avid supporter of Chelsea, was overjoyed when he received a surprise birthday greeting from Mourinho himself. Alf was off to watch his favourite team play Burnley, thanks to his caring neighbour Wendy Sneddon, Chelsea FC and Great Western Railway.

Wells once served as the station master at Newbury railway station and has been honoured with a fantastic day out to mark his birthday, including an invite to Sky Sports where he revealed Mourinho as his all-time favourite Chelsea manager.
After hearing his sweet revelation about the ‘Special One’, Wells got to watch a video message from Mourinho himself, wishing him a joyous birthday. “Alf, what an honour to be wishing you a happy birthday,” Mourinho said.
“100 is absolutely magnificent and to go to football… to your passion is something incredible. Many kisses, full of respect.”
Alf also received a bespoke Chelsea shirt featuring his name to remember this special occasion.
“Alf is amazingly independent,” Sneddon told the BBC. “He goes to the supermarket each week, does his own cooking, and his house is brilliantly tidy. He walks around where he lives most mornings to stay as fit as possible and does 20 squats each morning, holding onto his towel rail.
“I never cease to be amazed by how many people know Alf – many since his days of managing Newbury station. His brain is razor sharp, despite his great age, and, like many old people, his longer-term memory is superb.
“He knows the engine numbers of most steam and diesel trains and, when telling stories of his work, will mention them along with the name of the train driver.”
